EXTREME
MAKEOVER, HOME EDITION The Blind Alley Goes Extreme!
Roseanne Dore, who's a widow and a single mother, and her three daughters, lost their Kingston home and all their possessions in a house fire March 2004. They could see no way to rebuild in the immediate future. Roseanne Dore is a school-cafeteria worker. Left with a structure unsuitable to live in, she moved her kids into the utility shed in the backyard until she could figure out what to do. The girls go to friends' houses to shower. The entire family is stuck using an old door-less outhouse on the property. And, to top it all off, when not cooking on an outdoor propane camping barbecue, these ladies take inside to the pantry/storage room/painting shed to prepare food. Then, as a last resort, Roseanne Dore sent a videotape explaining their plight to producers of the TV show, who selected them over two other Seattle-area families for a home rebuild. "When we viewed the submission tape from the Dores, it was very easy to see they needed and greatly deserved our assistance. We also quickly realized that a brand new home, not a remodel, was in order," said "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" Senior Producer Conrad Ricketts. The taped episode, showing demolition, progress and the final result including homeowner reaction, first aired on ABC, KOMO-TV, Channel 4 on Sunday, January 9, 2005. On Monday, November 15, 2004, Sandie, Dan and Matt of The Blind Alley arrive on "location" to help with the product selection and measure for the overnight manufacturing of the Hunter Douglas products that will be selected by the Extreme Makeover, Home Edition design team.
