STEPS TO A SAFER HOME
~ October is Window Covering Safety Month ~ While Fall is a time of anticipation as the new school year begins and the seasons change, it is also an important time of recognition. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC) have designated the month of October as National Window Covering Safety Month to raise awareness of the potential dangers associated with window covering cords. "We have always been a strong ally and supporter of these two esteemed organizations and their mission of educating consumers about child safety, including those relating to window covering products," said Joe Jankoski, Vice President of Corporate Merchandising for Hunter Douglas, the nation's leading manufacturer of custom window fashions, as well as a member of the Board and Past Trustee of the WCSC. "Hunter Douglas was the first manufacturer to respond with a solution to the problem and has consistently taken a leadership position within the industry in regard to innovating alternative lifting systems that enhance the safety of our window coverings and building consumer awareness of window covering safety," continued Jankoski. Hunter Douglas is also extending its efforts and reaching out to individual states for proclamations from Governors that declare October "Window Covering Safety Month." States that have participated to date include Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi and Washington. In addition to the LiteRise cordless lifting system, Hunter Douglas offers a variety of other options and features that enhance child safety including Platinum Technology battery-powered and hard-wired motorization systems, and the UltraGlideŽ lifting system, a single retractable pull cord that maintains a constant length, whether the shade is raised or lowered, which significantly reduces access to the lift cord.
